Guidelines
Welcome. This site is for people living with the harm of racism, and for anyone who wants clear, careful reporting about it. If you are here to document, understand, or support that work, you are in the right place. If you are here to practice racism, harass others, or turn pain into a show, you are not.
Who this is for
We write and curate for people who have been targeted by racism, and for readers who want to stay informed without the circus. Dignity and safety come first. We do not platform abuse, and we do not give trolls a stage.
What belongs on the front page
Only editors put stories on the front page. Discovery tools may fill a review queue; that queue is a draft list, not a judgment about anyone’s character. We look for work that is:
- Grounded. Claims should hold up when you dig. Going viral is not enough on its own.
- Straight, not bait. Documented racism and discrimination deserve serious coverage, not outrage farming.
- Useful to the people it affects. Prefer stories that inform, document, or help people targeted by racism.
- Carefully framed. Lead with conduct, systems, institutions, and sourced findings. Do not assert that a named person held racist intent unless that claim is clearly tied to a lawsuit, investigation, or the original reporting. Strong labels belong to their sources.
Comments
Paid members at the Advocate for justice tier (and above, where applicable) may comment. Please keep discussion constructive and on the story. You can bookmark any story from its page to find it later on your profile.
- Threads stay open for 30 days after a story is published (or created, if it is not on the front page yet). After that the thread is archived: you can still read it, but new comments are closed.
- Links in comments show as plain text (not clickable) and are scanned for malware and phishing. Unsafe links are removed. First offense: a warning. Second: a one-week ban. Third: a permanent ban that only a site administrator can lift.
- Moderators and editors may hide other abuse. Founding members (the first 1,000 accounts) get a badge; the badge does not put anyone above the rules.
- Stoat chat for continuing archived threads is for Advocate for justice and Patron members. Eligible members open a channel from the story page; signup on Stoat is invite-only.
What we will not host
- Content that mainly serves or flatters people who practice racism
- Unverified pile-ons, hoaxes, and engagement bait
- Harassment, slurs aimed at victims, or “both-sides” dressing-up of hate
- Harassment or doxxing of editors, moderators, members, or anyone who helps run this site
- Bots or scripts signing up or posting as if they were people. Indexing and citing public pages is fine; faking a human account is not (we restrict the account and IP)
Write for us
Original editorials are commissioned and paid when the desk has budget. Pitch ideas and clips via Write for us (/contribute is the same page). Member link submissions are separate and unpaid.
Search and citation
We want the public pages findable. Search engines and research tools may index and cite them (see /llms.txt and /robots.txt). Creating accounts or joining comment threads is for people only.
